Owls Seeking Host Families
The Forest City Owls need host families for the 2008 season. Host families play a crucial role in summer collegiate baseball, as many of the players on the Owls roster are not from Forest City. As NCAA student athletes, Owls players are not allowed to accept pay for playing in a summer league. As a result, summer collegiate baseball leagues have traditionally relied on local families to house their players.
Host families are only obligated to provide a spare bedroom and access to a bathroom and laundry facilities. Each player is responsible for their own food and transportation, although the host family may include the player in family meals and activities.
Hosting an Owls player can be a rewarding experience for the host family. Owls players are excellent role models for young children and teenagers, and are great company for the entire household. Often players and host families share a friendship that lasts well beyond the end of the season.
In addition to players, several interns will need host families for the summer as well. Interns are college students who wish to pursue a career in sports management. Interns will work with the Owls during the summer, and often are not from Rutherford County.
Interns will report to Forest City in mid May and will stay through the second week in August. Owls players will begin to arrive in Forest City the last weekend in May and will be in town through the first weekend in August.
The Owls will host a welcome dinner for the host families and the players prior to the season. All host families will also be invited to a meet the team function at McNair Field before the first game. Host families will receive a 15% discount on souvenirs at McNair Field and will be recognized at the Owls final home game. If you are interested in hosting a Forest City Owls player, please contact the Owls at or by calling (828) 245-0000. Please include your name, phone number, and address.
