FOREST CITY, N.C. – Garrett Blaylock belted a two-run homer in the first, drew another RBI in the third, and the Owls never looked back in route to a 8-1 win over the Salisbury Stallions (Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League) Wednesday night at McNair Field in exhibition play.
Despite hits for Salisbury to lead off the first and second inning, the Stallions could not take advantage. Caleb Pearson (0-0) had a stellar outing for the home side in the win, striking out nine and allowing just three hits through 4.0 innings of work.
In the third, the Owls exploited the Stallions on the base paths, as Todd Elwood stole second and third after a lead-off single. He was eventually batted in by Blaylock on an RBI groundout, knocking in his third run of the contest at that point.
After Pearson exited, Salisbury showed signs of life in the fifth, knocking in their first run of the game on an RBI double. It would be their lone run of the contest.
The Owls broke the game open in the sixth, plating five runs on two hits. Blaylock knocked in his fourth and fifth runs, capping off a two-hit performance. The team had six hits total.
Forest City ends their brief exhibition stint with a record of 2-1, with both wins coming at home.
Salisbury will travel to West Rowan High School at 7:00pm tomorrow night to take on the Catawba Valley Stars in Western Division CVCL play.
Forest City moves on to Lexington County to take on the Blowfish in the first game of the regular season, with first pitch set for 7:05pm.
