Owls Dominate RedWolves in 13-2 Rout

The Forest City Owls returned to the field on Monday night after two consecutive games postponed due to rain. The Owls responded with a 13-2 victory over the Florence RedWolves.

The Owls were led by Kendall McGowan, who went three for five with a walk on the night. He drove in four runs during the win. Those included an RBI single in the second inning, and a three-run home run in the fifth. McGowan now leads the Owls with three homers, and 10 RBIs this season. Carter Foster, Todd Elwood, Elijah Henderson, Jake Lyle, and Matthew Lumsden also drove in runs for Forest City during the 13-run outburst.

The Owls forced Florence starting pitcher Robin Allen out of the game in the fourth inning, after he lasted just 3.1 innings, allowed seven runs and five walks. He was Monday night's losing pitcher. The winning pitcher was Forest City's Matthew Dailey, who went six strong. In his outing, Dailey allowed two earned run on five hits. He struck out 10, a season-high for an Owls pitcher in 2019, while walking only two. Kenyan Butler and Stephen Kight appeared after Dailey, tossing a combined three scoreless innings for the Owls. They struck out four, and allowed five hits collectively.

With the win, the Owls improve their record to 3-4 on the season, while the RedWolves fall to 2-6 with the loss. Forest City had 13 runs on nine hits. They committed one error, while leaving 11 on base. Despite the 11-run loss, the RedWolves outhit the Owls by one, getting two runs on 10 hits. They had three defensive errors, and left 13 stranded. The time of the game was 3:34, the longest game of 2019 for Forest City.

Forest City will enjoy an off day tomorrow, before battling the Gastonia Grizzlies in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The doubleheader at Sims Legion Park comes as a result of last Friday's rainout in Gastonia.
