Owls Split Doubleheader With Gastonia Thursday Night

Owls Split Doubleheader With Gastonia Thursday Night

The Forest City Owls collected a hard-earned doubleheader split against the Gastonia Grizzlies on Thursday. After the Grizzlies took the first game 7-2, the Owls rebounded with a 4-3 walk-off win in the second game on Faith Night at McNair Field.

The walk-off in game two completed an exciting comeback for the Owls, who trailed 3-0 going into the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Kendall McGowan got the Owls on the board with an RBI single to score Gehrig Christopher. Matthew Lumsden then tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run home run. Forrest City then collected a walk-off fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Drew Donathan reaching first base, and Garrett Blaylock scoring.

The winning pitcher for the Owls in game two was Issac Bracken, who tossed a scoreless seventh inning. He followed Zachary Taglieri, who went two innings. He surrendered two hits and two walks, but didn't allow a run. All of this came after Canaan Silver allowed three runs in his Owls 2019 debut over four innings of work.

Mitchell Holcomb was the winning pitcher for the Grizzlies in the first game, allowing just two runs in six innings of work. He had two strikeouts in his outing. Mason Herbert was the losing pitcher for Forest City, lasting just three innings. He allowed four runs in the game, two of which were earned, on three hits. Matt Harrison came into the game in relief, allowing one run in two innings. He collected two strikeouts. Aaron Beasley then made his Owls debut, with two runs allowed in one inning, with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Owls only managed three hits on offense in game one. The runs came home on a Garrett Blaylock solo home run, his third of the season, and wild pitch that scored Justin Guy.

After the doubleheader the Grizzlies have a record of 7-3 in 2019, and are set to take on the Lexington County Blowfish at home on Friday. The Owls will host the Asheboro Copperheads in a West Division matchup on Friday. They'll come into the game with a 4-5 record so far this season. First pitch from McNair Field tomorrow is set for 7:05 P.M.
