Owls Season Update

Owls Season Update

The Forest City Owls have closely monitored the COVID-19 announcements of the Federal, State, and Local authorities of the state of North Carolina and the league has delayed the 2020 season start until July 1st

Depending on governmental guidance, teams may begin to form in mid-June to prepare for the season and may play some exhibition games in June. It is expected that this schedule will allow the league's teams and host cities to properly prepare to give the fans and the country's finest collegiate baseball players a safe and enjoyable environment.

The Owls intend to follow the strict guidelines of the state of North Carolina and Rutherford County. We are excited to finally have a schedule. We can announce that the Owls Opening Night will be Thursday July 2nd in a doubleheader versus the Lexington Blowfish. The Owls open on the road the previous night at Lexington. Further, we are happy to announce that our annual Fourth of July game will occur on the 4th with fireworks versus the Martinsville Mustangs.

"We are thrilled to have a start date," said Kiva Fuller, Director of Operations for the Owls,
"this promises to be a unique season. We will play 42 games in 46 days; 21 at home and 21 away.  Further, the Owls will have the most players on its roster than ever before as many players reached out to the Owls, and many, including the CPL leaders in homeruns last year, Kendall McGowan and Garrett Blaylock, are expected to return. In all at least eight players from last year will be returning.

We are in desperate need of host families and the Owls can readily assure the families that there will be very strict health guidelines for the players to follow.  We guarantee all safety measures will be taken with the players. Further, we anticipate the concession stand to be a challenge under Rutherford County health regulations. We are asking for your patience in implementing the new norm."

It is our intention to play two exhibition games before the season starts to get the players ready and get the concession stand used to the new norm.

We are looking forward to baseball in Forest City finally!

Our offices will reopen on a daily basis on May 7th from 10 AM - 5 PM.
